Health Insurance
International students undertaking formal studies in Australia and their dependents (For example; spouses and children under 18 years old) must obtain Overseas Students Health Cover (OSHC) which is mandatory visa condition. Department of Home Affair requires evidence of OSHC to demonstrate that the student is adequately insured for the duration of time they are in Australia.
It includes the cover for the visits to the doctor, some hospital treatments, ambulance cover and limited pharmaceuticals. However, OSHC does not cover the general treatments for optical, dental or physiotherapy. Covering those treatments require OSHC extras.
Currently, there are five insurers that offers OSHC which can be purchased through you education provider or directly on your own.
- Australian Health Management
- Bupa Australia
- Medibank Private
- Allianz Global assistance
- NIB OSHC
